Speaker Biographies and Program Descriptions
Amanda Harvey (she/her): Amanda had to learn to love winter as an adult after moving back to Minnesota from the warmth of the south.
She began riding and racing fat bikes in 2017. Winning her first winter ultra in 2019 at the inaugural ‘St. Croix 40’. Since then she's been looking forward to cold and snow every year, completing the ‘Arrowhead 135’ and ‘Tuscobia 160’ races.
This winter she's looking forward to racing the ‘Iditarod Trail Invitational 350’.
Elena Alsides-Haynes (they/she): Elena grew up in St.Paul, but didn’t really start to enjoy winter as an adult until a few years ago, despite being a winter bike commuter her whole life. It took getting a dog and watching her love winter for it really sink in that it was a beautiful season, and from there she learned she could combine her love of bikepacking (of which she has an extensive background) with this new-found love of winter into winter fat bike ultras, of which she did her first last year.
This year she is looking forward to ‘St. Croix 40’, ‘Tuscobia 80’, and ‘Arrowhead 135’ with her good pal Amanda!

This session will discuss riding or racing winter ultras on a fat bike, geared toward the beginner or winter ultra curious.
We'll discuss what these races entail, what gear is required, how to eat on the bike, what to wear and much more.
